🚗 Vehicle & Engine Compatibility

This part is explicitly engineered for the 4.0-Liter V6 Petrol Engine (Engine Code: 1GR-FE). It primarily supports the Single VVT-i generations of this engine line globally:

  • Toyota 4Runner: Model years 2003–2009

  • Toyota Tacoma: Model years 2005–2015

  • Toyota FJ Cruiser: Model years 2007–2009 (along with select international models running single VVT-i builds up to 2014)

  • Toyota Tundra: Model years 2005–2011

  • Toyota Land Cruiser (Prado 120 / LC70 Series): Global 1GR-FE models

  • Toyota Hilux & Fortuner: Global 4.0L V6 variants

⚠️ VIN Verification Warning: Around 2010 (depending on the vehicle platform), Toyota updated the 1GR-FE engine to a Dual VVT-i configuration. Dual VVT-i systems feature a heavily modified cylinder head and front engine profile that use a completely different timing cover casting. Always verify your vehicle's VIN to avoid ordering a mismatch.

Component Group: Timing Gear Cover & Oil Pump Assembly.

Material: High-pressure die-cast aluminum alloy.

It directly replaces and supersedes the following older parts:

  • 11310-31010, 11310-31011, 11310-31012, 11310-31013, 11310-0P030

🔧 Critical Installation Advice for Shop Mechanics

Tearing down a 1GR-FE front engine bay to access the timing cover is highly labor-intensive, often requiring removal of the upper/lower oil pans and accessory brackets. Keep these essential tips in mind to prevent leaks or oil pressure problems upon reassembly:

    1. Replace the Hidden Block O-Rings: Behind the timing cover, where it mates cleanly with the engine block, sit small rubber O-rings meant for high-pressure oil lines and cooling fluid jackets. Always buy and install new O-rings. Reusing old ones often causes invisible internal pressure drops or cross-contamination between oil and coolant lines.

    2. Apply Form-In-Place Gasket (FIPG) Properly: This mating cover surface uses no paper or pre-formed rubber perimeter gaskets. It seals purely on liquid silicone. Apply a uniform bead of Toyota Genuine Black FIPG (or 1282B) along the mating flange, following the specific routing instructions around the bolt holes, and torque down immediately according to factory sequences.

    3. Pre-Prime the Pump Rotors: Before fixing the cover permanently onto the engine snout, fill or pack the integrated oil pump gear cavity with clean engine oil or assembly grease. Launching a dry pump on your first startup can scratch the aluminum housing walls and delay critical engine oil pressure.

    4. Check the Front Crankshaft Seal: A new OEM front main crank seal (90311-A0005) sits right in the center bore of this cover. Double-check if your supplier included it pre-installed. If not, tap a fresh seal into place on the bench before mounting the bulky cover assembly to the truck.
